Halloween ACAC Submissions
Nov 1st, 2011 | By Nikita | Category: A.C.A.C., FeatureThe timing for this challenge couldn’t have been more perfect. After the most recent Quick Draw, with a certain scary holiday just around the corner, we couldn’t resist a Halloween-themed challenge! For this challenge, we’ve had a lot of first-time submissions as well as some frequent contributors stepping up to the plate. Take a look at the submissions and decide which ones are scary good and which ones are just…scary. [NOTE: All designs are copyrighted by the respective artists. We have permission to post them here, but you must get permission from the artist for any other use of their design, or to post them elsewhere.]

Yay submissions!!!
I love love love number 8!!!
Fantastic you guys!!! I will hold back on guessing, even though I KNOW I would be right on some of them
. This is so much fun to see!!!
Wow….sad that I somehow missed this challenge!
Beautiful work, by everyone!
I’ve gotta say, the green “Trick or Treat” piece is incredible!! Wow…
I’m pretty sure I know who did #8…but I’m not saying anything yet
. I tried to do something like #2, but I couldn’t make it work nearly as well!
#2 is OUTSTANDING! Once you zoom up on the image, you can see how great the designs really is.
#8 is crazy good as well.
#13 (good number, Friday the 13th) is very good, great position for that design.
I would have liked to get in on this ACAC, I will try to more vigilant and get a design in on the next round.
Everyone is so good, I love the work!

The number of submission is really disappointing but amazing quality ambigrams. It is great to see how the presentation of the ambigrams getting better and better every time.
TRICK OR TREAT: Wow, Amazing!!! Can’t take my eyes out of it. Thanks for the treat. (To the artist: Your every design has been a tutorial class for me. Thanks a lot. And you are going to break few records this time
)
THE WITCHING HOUR: Another awesome design. Such a complex word and so well designed!!! Highly legible and very stylish lettering. I loved ‘W/gh’ part. Can’t imagine a better design.
DRINK ME (bottle): Wow… If I was looking for something special, this submission has it. The word isn’t a tough one but the way the ambigram is presented is amazing. Is it drawn on a real bottle and photo is taken? or is it some illustration work? It is amazing either way.
THE EVIL DEAD: More of an illusion based design. The detailing is nice but color contrast doesn’t enhance the overall view.
DRINK ME (spiral): Once again I could see something special in this design. It is more of a ring ambigram but the way it is presented is really nice.
THE GRUDGE: A neatly presented ambigram. I liked that scary eye
FRIDAY THE 13TH: Another very neat ambigram. Bit scary too.
THE RITE: Nothing wrong about it
Feel of the ambigram is nice.
ABDUCTED: Another beautiful ambigram. Neat.
CANDYMAN: Nice
Well presented. I had little difficulty in reading ‘Y’ in the ambigram.
About submission #15: Lettering is great but I am having some tough time reading it. Could read ‘Chick &’ and I know it is a symbiotogram. And some complex combination as well. As I am not attached to most of the scary movies I can’t guess the word.
And for me the winning design is ‘feature_acac15′
Looks very beautiful (not an ambigram though)
I will do my best to get in on the next challenge as well. Life got a little crazy. Plus, I probably would have just watered down the batch. Great work everyone!!
I just noticed that #15 is a symbiotogram for Trick or Treat / Heath Ledger. Cool.
Hi guys! Great work! But I agree with Sharath, there could have been more submissions. Love “The Witching hour”. Admire the readability in “The grudge”. “Friday the 13th is also very well donel.12 is funny “Drink me” #12 is funny and unique. Like the simplicity in Scream. Rite is very cool. I Like R/E solution.
Cheers!
Personally, I really enjoyed TheWitchingHour and FridayThe13th.
The artists found / chose very appropriate long phrases which worked well, and were able to add flair and personality to the design.

Wow! Great designs as always! I didn’t participate as well in this competition. Hopefully I will in the next one.
My favourites are:
1) Trick or treat : I think everybody wishes he/she had drawn that!!!
2) Friday the 13th & The Grudge : Both have simple and direct legibility and style.
3) The Withing Hour : A long phrase with beautiful letter combinations.
Best regards,
Vasileios Stergioudis
Was relooking through this again on a larger screen this time (was on iPhone)..
The details on Trick Or Treat were just too polished, too time-consuming to not deserve at least a mention. Hats off to (whoever the artist is; a name pops up but I could be very wrong)..

What does #1 say?
Didn’t submit one this time, even though I had an idea, just kept putting it off. So that’s not a problem this time. But I’ll try to get something in for the next contest.
#1 reads ‘Rakshasa’, a sanskrit word which means demon. It is mostly created by an Indian.
I have a problem with the choice of words of some participants. When a word is totally unkown to people it is very difficult o read, understand and appreciate it unless it is a natural ambigram or asthetically very pleasing. In previous challenge Jennifer’s attempt was something similar. I could appreciate it only once I understood the concept.
I am not sure if such attempts shouldn’t be made. When such attempts are made it is important to explain the concept so that everyone can appreciate it.
We need a forum to discuss…
THE WITCHING HOUR and TRICK OR TREAT are amazing pieces of art with well drawn letterforms. THE RITE is excellent too — a gorgeous poster design — not a terribly challenging ambigram, but an excellently executed one. I really love the DRINK ME concept and photo, but the style of the ambigram seems off target and the n/k bothers me, along with the way that glyph seems to obscure the word break.
But my fave is ABDUCTED. The letter-manipulation decisions were flawlessly made. The word is thoroughly and easily readable and carries an appropriate stylistic feeling.
@John – I made the “Drink Me” one – thanks so much for the comments! I don’t suppose you’d like to elaborate on how you’d improve it?
Nice ambigraming! It’s always a pleasure to see new ambigrams.
Unfortunately, my design fell short of the deadline. It’s of *Rest in Peace*. However, it lacks resemblance to a Halloween theme. Click the following link to check out the design.

Until next time!
Hm…..
Interesting….
My votes before they are published:
1. Johan (speachless)
2. The Witching Hour (beautiful execution. The W/gh are spectacular)
3. Abducted (you know me and mirrors, I’m somewhat partial)
4. Friday the 13th
5. The Grudge
Next time I’ll play. There was something very refreshing about stepping back and taking a look at everyone’s work without worrying about how my own piece ranked.
Oh, and Johan…thanks for sealing up the next ambigrammy award too.
Talk about raising the bar.
I wonder if Johan is the only participant for the next ambigrammy
There will be a high competition between his ambigrams for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!! LOL
I was close on my guesses!!!!
I was going to carve one into a pumpkin, but didn’t since it would be too much work, and it was too predictable :/
I reckon it would have got quite far
